IMP School Recognized for AP Statistics CourseNorthside College Preparatory High School in Chicago, a selective admissions Chicago Public School, uses IMP as its core curriculum for all students. The school offers Advanced Placement courses beyond the core IMP curriculum. In January 2005, the College Board recognized Northside Prep as having the top AP Statistics program in the world, as measured by performance on the AP Statistics exam in combination with the fact that the school provides access to AP Statistics to a significant proportion of its students. Beth Runkel, who teaches both IMP and AP Statistics at the school, spoke to the link between the two programs: "There is a great amount of overlap and reinforcement of the concepts between the IMP and AP Statistics curricula. For example, when we began studying probability this year in AP Statistics, the students were able to quickly move on to complicated binomial distribution problems because they had learned about them in their third year of IMP." IMPressions: A Newsletter about the Interactive Math Program Spring 2005 "Your school has been identified as having the strongest AP Statistics course in the world among schools in your size range (500-999 High School Students). We identify such schools by comparing the number of students who scored 3 or higher on the AP Statistics Exams to the total high school enrollment; no other school had a greater proportion of its student body succeed in AP Statistics last year. On January 25, 2005, we will be releasing to the national media our first "Advanced Placement Report to the Nation." This Report will include much state-level data about AP participation and performance, and will also name for each AP subject the school in which the greatest segment of its students succeed on the AP Exam. With your permission, we will cite Northside College Preparatory High School as having the highest performing AP Statistics course among all schools worldwide in its size range." Trever Packer, Executive Director of the AP Program, The College Board IMP Teachers Achieve National Board CertificationFifteen Chicago Public Schools teachers achieved national teacher certification in November 2004 in the certificate area of Adolescent and Young Adulthood Mathematics.
